A highlight from this week was definitely our field trip to see "The Coloring Book"! It was an awesome production. Sadly, we weren't able to go to the park due to the cold and windy weather, but we still had fun with lunch in the classroom and a bit of extra (indoor) recess time!
Writing- Students composed an expository thankful writing with an introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Lessons revolved around main idea and supporting details. These pieces were taken home on Friday so hopefully you have had a chance to read them, and enjoy them!
Reading- We are deep into our Nonfiction Unit in Reading. We spent the week learning a couple of new reading strategies - the author's purpose in writing the piece, looking for the problem and solutions in nonfiction articles, and cause/ effect.
Math- Fractions! We explored using a number line to represent fractions (think rulers), comparing fractions, and adding unit fractions (example ⅛ + ⅛+ ⅛= ⅜). Students used an awesome math manipulative called cuisenaire rods to deepen their understanding. We will take a short quiz (daily grade) on Wednesday or Thursday after Thanksgiving Break since there is no DCA for this unit.
Science- Students spend a few days researching and creating a presentation on an earthquake, volcano, or landslide. I have been loving seeing them present their knowledge on slideshows, drawings, and informative posters!
Social studies- We looked at heroes from the past and some environmental heroes who are only 8-12 years old.
Have a great and relaxing Thanksgiving break!
