Writing- Students continued to write poetry. They edited and revised their poems by adding line breaks and stanzas, then typed them up to publish them. I loved reading their creative and clever writing!
Reading- We learned about lyrical poems and talked about the emotions and sensory images often found in poetry.
Math- Multiplication 2’s and 5’s facts! Students explored some different strategies for multiplying, like arrays, equal groups, repeated addition, and skip counting. We also discussed relationships in tables, doubling, halving, and using the tens facts to help figure out the 5’s facts.
Science- Forms of energy. We did some experiments to explore sound energy, light energy, and thermal energy. Sadly, the rain and cold got in the way of our smore cook off exploring light and heat energy, but we will find time for it!
Social studies- We discussed what good citizenship looks like, and real life heroes like Ruby Bridges.
ESLOT- Students got to choose their 4 week rotation: cooking, design challenge, technology, pottery, arts and crafts, or lego robotics!
We also had LOTS of indoor recess! The kids were great sports about it, but I know they can't wait to see the sun shine again!
Coming up next…
Writing and reading- We will wrap up our unit on poetry and begin our unit on non-fiction and expository texts. We will also visit the book fair.
Math- More with multiplication!
Science- We will wrap up forms of energy this week and take the DCA test.
Social studies- We will research a country for International Children’s week!
