Writing- We began our unit on expository writing.
Reading- Exploring non-fiction! Here are students reading non-fiction with a partner.
This week we took a closer look at text features and how they can be helpful when reading a non-fiction book.
Today, we had an author visit from Donna Bowman. She wrote the Bluebonnet book Step Right Up, which we read as a class a few weeks ago.

Math- Wrapped up the multiplication introduction unit and took the DCA. On Wednesday (Halloween), we reviewed by doing some problem solving. When they completed the problems as a team, they got clues to go in and find something by doing a scavenger hunt… it was "make a skeleton" cookies! Then they had to put the skeleton together and divide it up evenly amongst the team.
Science- A closer look at volcanoes, landslides, and earthquakes. We also finally got to make our solar ovens! It was a great way to wrap up our unit on energy before we moved on. We discussed the different structures and functions that allowed the oven to get so hot inside, and the forms of energy that were used.
ESLOT- Visited our kinder buddies and created a fun thanksgiving turkey project.
Then, we celebrated winning the boxtops contest with popsicles out in the courtyard!
I also enjoyed getting to see students at the concert on Tuesday! They did amazing and I was so impressed!
A look ahead:
Writing- Continue expository writing
Reading- More with non-fiction
Math- We will begin unit 4 on fractions
Science- Conduct experiments with models of volcanoes and earthquakes
